Police have kicked off investigations into circumstances under which 17 human skulls  and bone were recovered from a shrine in Mpigi district.

The skulls were recovered at Kabanga village in Mpigi town council, the home of Lujja Bbosa Tabula, a man accused of having hired the killers of late Ndiga clan head, Daniel Bbosa.

Tabula is currently on the run.

The skulls were recovered by children who were looking for firewood from the dilapidated structure.

“As the children looked for firewood from the dilapidated structure, they tried to break a piece of wood that gave way, displaying something that looked like a human skull. These alerted us,” Bruno Sserunkuuma, a neighbour to the facility said.

He said on learning the development, he alerted the LC1 chairman and on reaching the site, they found metallic boxes , prompting them to alert police .

Police swung into action and found skulls in one of the metallic boxes and sensing there could be more, an excavator was brought and at least four metallic cases were dug out.

These were kept underneath a shrine owned by the missing Tabula.

An examination of the metallic cases led to the discovery of 17 human skulls and other human bones.

The Katonga region police spokesperson, Majid Karim confirmed the development, saying investigations will help give more information about the human skulls.

“We have taken the human skulls to police as investigations into how they came to be here continue,” Majid said.

However, according to locals, before he ran away , following the murder of the late Ndiga clan head, Tabula had a shrine that was always visited by a number of people.

Police put a shs20 million bounty on Tabula who is accused of having masterminded the murder of the Buganda clan head on February, 25 in Lungujja, a Kampala suburb.

Bbosa was shot dead by two assailants who were riding on a motorcycle who waylaid him as he returned home from a function.
