Police FC clinched their first win of the 2024/25 Uganda Premier League season, narrowly defeating Kitara FC 1-0 at Royals Park in Butema.

Gaddafi Kacancu netted the only goal of the match, striking a rebound into the top corner after Kitara goalkeeper Crispus Kusiima failed to hold onto Isaac Ogwang’s freekick.

The goal marked a long-awaited victory for Police, who had just returned to top-flight football.

The Cops nearly extended their lead a minute later when Brian Obedi slotted home from Ogwang’s low cross. However, the referee, Mashood Ssali, controversially disallowed the goal for a foul on Kusiima, despite video replays showing no infringement.

Kitara came out fighting in the second half, with Jude Ssemugabi hitting the woodwork and Patrick Kaddu missing a header from close range.

Despite the home side’s pressure, Police FC held on to secure their first win of the campaign after drawing their opening three games.

For Kitara, this marks their second consecutive defeat at their newly inaugurated Royals Park, following a previous loss to NEC.

The Hoima-based side, coached by Brian Ssenyondo, now has three losses in a row, with their sole victory coming against Lugazi in the season opener.
