President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni bid farewell to the outgoing Ambassador of the Netherlands to Uganda, H.E. Karin Boven, at the State Lodge in Nakasero today. H.E. Boven concluded her four-year tenure in Uganda.
President Museveni expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Boven for her service and wished her success in her future endeavors. He provided an overview of Uganda’s political history, highlighting the transformation under the NRM government from a failed state to a nation with peace and security. He attributed past setbacks to philosophical, ideological, and strategic mistakes.
Ambassador Boven shared her positive experiences in Uganda and emphasized the ongoing cooperation between the Netherlands and Uganda, particularly in agriculture. She noted the Netherlands’ significant involvement in agricultural programs, including the Best Farmers Competition in Uganda.
Ambassador Boven highlighted the presence of Dutch entrepreneurs in Uganda’s agro-business and tourism sectors, praising their innovative approaches. She also commended Uganda’s hospitality towards refugees under President Museveni’s leadership.
President Museveni attributed Uganda’s welcoming stance towards refugees to its Pan-African ideology, which opposes xenophobia and promotes unity. He explained that Uganda allows refugees to integrate and contribute to society rather than confining them to camps.
Both leaders agreed on the crucial role of the private sector in socio-economic transformation.
