President Museveni Presides Over Signing of MOU for Kidepo International Airport Construction

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Thursday, oversaw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Government of Uganda and the United Arab Emirates’ Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry at Munyonyo.

President Museveni welcomed the MOU, noting the strengthened relations between Uganda and Gulf countries, which offer significant investment potential. The agreement involves multiple Ugandan government bodies, including the Ministry of Works and Transport, Civil Aviation Authority, Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, and Uganda Wildlife Authority.

The MOU outlines plans for the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry to construct Kidepo International Airport near Kidepo National Park and build tourist hotels within the park, aiming to boost Uganda’s tourism sector and economy.

H.E. Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Chamber, assured President Museveni that construction would commence in August 2024 and pledged timely and high-quality work.

The signing was witnessed by key officials, including Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, Minister of Internal Affairs; Gen. Katumba Wamala, Minister of Works and Transport Hon. Martin Mugarra Bahinduka, State Minister for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities; and H.E. Abdalla Hassan Alshamsi, UAE Ambassador to Uganda.
