President Yoweri Kaguta Musveni has addressed the controversial matter of a section of Buganda Clan Leaders (Abataka abakulu b’ebika) who were recently arrested in Namibia.
The clan leaders were arrested on their way heading to the hospital where the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II is receiving treatment from.
In a letter to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Jeje Odongo, President Museveni requested all Ugandans to stop embarrassing Uganda by opportunistically trying to show how much they are for the Kabaka.
Museveni condemned the Bataka for insisting to visit the Kabaka against his will saying for anyone who wishes to pay him a visit, he or she must first get permission from the Kabaka himself or whoever else he has authorized.
“Apart from the Kabaka himself, the next level of authorization to visit him could be his family or whoever else he has authorized. These dramas are happening away from our jurisdiction. Otherwise, we would have taken action,” the President said.
The clan leaders who are currently in Namibia include; Lwomwa Lwasi of Ndiga Clan, the premier of Lugave clan Godfrey Katiigo Katende, Nvuma clan head Kasirye Mbug’eramula Kyaddondo, Kasujja Kyeyune Kakande of Ngeye clan, and Deus Kyeyune Mawesano of Ngaali.
President Museveni’s letter in full details
I have seen a letter to the Permanent Secretary, Foreign Affairs from the High Commissioner of Uganda to South Africa and Namibia, informing me of the indiscipline of some Ugandans vis a vis the Kabaka’s presence in Namibia for medical treatment which the Ugandans did not know about until the Bataka told me on the 8th of June, 2024, when they came with Hon. Sebugwawo. I told them that we are not aware and nor are we involved in the issue of the HH Kabaka’s presence in Namibia.
Therefore, by the copies of this letter, I request all the Ugandans to stop embarrassing Uganda by opportunistically trying to show how much they are for the Kabaka. Apart from the Kabaka himself, the next level of authorization to visit him could be his family or whoever else he has authorized.
These dramas are happening away from our jurisdiction. Otherwise, we would have taken action.
