Three people have been confirmed dead following a fatal shooting incident at Kiboga Prison in Kiboga District.
According to Frank Baine, the Uganda Prisons Spokes person, the shooting occurred at about 10:00am when a prison warden allegedly opened fire on his supervisors.
The deceased have been identified as Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Hope Catherine, who was serving as Deputy Officer in Charge; Principal Officer I Akishuri Bright, described as the third in command at the facility; and Ms. Ayebare Sarah, the spouse of the Officer in Charge.
The statement indicates that Warder No. 13544 Anguyo Moses is suspected to have shot the three before fleeing the facility. Police were immediately notified and secured the scene as investigations commenced.
Joint security agencies have since launched a manhunt for the suspect, who remains at large and is considered dangerous. Authorities confirmed that the firearm used in the shooting has been recovered.
The Uganda Prisons Service has urged members of the public with any information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts to report to the nearest police station.
Officials said the public will be updated as more details emerge.
“We regret to announce the unfortunate death of three persons following a shooting incident at Kiboga Prison,” the statement read, extending condolences to the families of the deceased.
