BUL FC have reportedly added goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga ahead of the forthcoming Uganda Premier League (UPL) season.
The Jinja-based club is yet to officially unveil the player, but he has been training with the team, and was part of the squad camping in Mbale for their friendly match with Mbale Heroes last Saturday.
The goalkeeper joins BUL now as a direct replacement for last season’s UPL Golden Glove winner, Thomas Ikara, who left the UPL club to join Ethiopian side, Sidama Coffee.
Muwanga last played for Etoile de L’Est in the Rwanda Premier League.
In Uganda, he has also previously played for Onduparaka, Express, URA and Sadolin Paint.
His experience in the UPL will be of great importance to BUL – the custodian is a two-times goalkeeper of the year award winner, having emerged the best in 2016 with Sadolin Paints, and in 2021 with Express.
The Eastern Giants had an impressive 2023/24 season, but only narrowly missed out on the league title.
BUL finished second on the table, with 56 points – just one less than eventual champions SC Villa (67).
