The Rotary Club of Kampala, one of Uganda’s oldest and most influential service organizations, has installed its 70th President and 70th Board of Directors, marking a significant milestone in its long history of community service and leadership.
The official handover ceremony saw outgoing President Jackie Ayuya pass the mantle to incoming President Shem Nnaggenda Nsubuga, ushering in a new chapter for the club as it celebrates seven decades of transformative service in Uganda.
Widely regarded as the “Grand Arch Club” of Rotary in Uganda, the Rotary Club of Kampala has played a pivotal role in advancing humanitarian, health, education, and economic empowerment initiatives across the country. The installation ceremony reflected on the club’s enduring legacy while setting the stage for an ambitious future.
Speaking during the handover, Past President Jackie Ayuya highlighted the achievements recorded during her tenure, particularly in health, economic development, and community transformation.
“Handing over the mantle today fills me with immense pride,” Ayuya said. “Over the past year, our team worked tirelessly to build on the legacy of the Grand Arch Club. We have strengthened a foundation of deep community transformation through vital health initiatives, sustainable economic development programmes, and projects that contribute to long-term national growth. This extensive record of service is now ready to be advanced by the next generation of leadership.”
The leadership transition comes at a historic moment for the club, which enters its 70th year as part of Africa’s fastest-growing Rotary country. Over the decades, the Rotary Club of Kampala has established itself as a leading force for service above self, impacting thousands of lives through community-driven projects.
Rotary District 9213 Governor Geoffrey Kitakule commended the club’s contribution to society and its continued commitment to service.
“The Rotary Club of Kampala continues to be a shining beacon of service across our district,” Kitakule said. “As the club celebrates this profound milestone, the installation of its 70th Board sets a benchmark for leadership, continuity, and visionary community development in Uganda.”
The ceremony also marked the official launch of Strategy 777, a bold roadmap that will guide the club’s activities over the coming years and position it for continued impact as it journeys toward its centennial anniversary.
The strategy is anchored on three ambitious targets: recruiting 70 new quality members, launching 70 new community projects, and raising US$70,000 to support humanitarian initiatives.
In his inaugural address, President Shem Nnaggenda Nsubuga emphasized that the strategy goes beyond numbers and focuses on transforming lives.
“Behind every number in Strategy 777 is a human story children receiving education, families gaining access to clean water, mothers receiving healthcare, young people acquiring skills, and communities finding hope,” Nsubuga said. “We have a divine opportunity during this Platinum Year to dream, serve, and make a difference. I pledge to use every gift God has entrusted to me to serve this club faithfully, preserve its proud legacy, and leave it stronger than I found it.”
As the Rotary Club of Kampala embarks on its 70th year, members and leaders say the focus remains firmly on expanding impact, strengthening communities, and building on a legacy that has shaped lives across Uganda for generations.
Founded as a member club of Rotary International and Rotary District 9213, the Rotary Club of Kampala continues to bring together leaders, professionals, and change-makers dedicated to creating lasting solutions to some of society’s most pressing challenges.
