The Rotary Club of Mengo on Monday received a pledged donation of one standard maternal bed from Rotary District 9214 Governor Christine Kyeyune Kawooya. The donation was officially delivered during the club’s weekly meeting at Pope Paul Hotel in Ndeeba, Lubaga Division, Kampala District.

District 9214 covers both Uganda and Tanzania, and Governor Kawooya had previously committed to support the club’s maternal health initiatives following her official visit.

The pledge followed a presentation by Rotary Club of Mengo President (2025/2026), Rotarian Migadde Musoke Ronald, who outlined the club’s plans to support Namayumba Health Centre IV. The club aims to provide mama kits and standard maternal beds to assist pregnant teenage mothers and address critical challenges facing the facility.

Delivering the maternal bed on behalf of the District Governor, Assistant District Governor Gorret Massadde commended the Rotary Club of Mengo for their commitment and passion in advancing maternal and child health.

“The Governor is very passionate about maternal and child health. When she visited and heard your plans, she committed to donating a delivery bed and here it is. This shows that when you have a clear plan and execute it, support will follow. You are truly on the path to becoming a model Governor’s Club,” said Assistant Governor Massadde.

Rotarian Migadde Musoke Ronald expressed his appreciation to Governor Kawooya for fulfilling her pledge and for inspiring the club to take a proactive role in maternal and child health.

“During our needs assessment at Namayumba Health Centre IV, we found maternal beds among the most pressing needs. As a club, we committed to purchasing two beds, and with the Governor’s contribution, we now have three. The additional two beds are being donated by our friends from the Rotary Club of Sikaluboro in Canada. The rest of the maternal and child health needs will be handled by our club,” he said.

During the same meeting, Rotarian Jane Nankabirwa Kabugo led a financial literacy session titled Money Magic. She guided members through the seven levels of financial independence: clarity, self-satisfaction, breathing room, stability, flexibility, financial freedom, and abundant wealth. She emphasized the importance of financial discipline as a pathway to personal and community empowerment.
