Rwizi, Class of 2015, was crowned overall champions of the Chaapa League Season 9 at the grand finale, held on Saturday at the NEC playground in Bugolobi, Kampala.
Sponsored by Guinness, the event delivered a thrilling mix of alumni football action and entertainment, drawing fans from all corners.
The day’s biggest celebration belonged to Rwizi, who dominated the league throughout the season and earned the prestigious title of Chaapa League champions.
Their season-long consistency and skillful play culminated in this well-deserved honour, with their supporters celebrating passionately as they received the coveted league shield.
Jacob Kabigumira, Chairman of the Chaapa League, praised the league’s spirit, saying, “Today was an amazing display of what the Chaapa League is all about: unity, friendship, and football. Rwizi’s triumph embodies the dedication and camaraderie this league fosters.”
“We’re thrilled to have completed another successful season and already look forward to the next one!”
The grand finale also featured the Bulls Tournament, which saw eight teams battle it out. Chogum FC, Class of 2003, emerged victorious, defeating DingFwayo FC in a tense final.
Despite their triumph, much of the focus remained on Rwizi’s season-long dominance, which was celebrated throughout the day.
Guinness, the long-time sponsor of the Chaapa League, played a central role in making the day memorable.
Known for its deep connection to football, the brand provided an exceptional experience for fans, both on and off the pitch.
Denis Wokorach, Guinness Brand Representative, emphasized Guinness’ passion for football, noting that platforms like the Chaapa League allow them to engage with football lovers in a unique way.
“Football is in our DNA,” said Wokorach. “We love giving fans the chance to enjoy Guinness while celebrating the sport they love. Our ongoing Guinness Matchday Campaign is offering football fans an opportunity of a lifetime—an all-expenses-paid trip to the UK to watch their favorite team play.”
Fans, already buzzing from Rwizi’s triumph and the intense Bulls Tournament action, eagerly discussed Sunday’s clash between Arsenal and Manchester City, further blending local football pride with the excitement of the English Premier League (EPL).
In addition to the league championship, Rwizi players shined in individual awards. Top season performers included Otuke and Acient, who shared the Top Assists title with 12 assists each, while Timo earned both MVP and Golden Glove honours, with 21 clean sheets. Atamba was celebrated as the league’s top scorer, netting 17 goals across the season.
The day also featured standout musical performances by Bad Boys, Allan Tonix, and Pia Pounds, who energized the crowd with her hits “Tupaate,” “Wakikuba,” and “Delicious.”
