SC Villa staged an incredible late comeback against URA at Wankulukuku to put themselves ahead in the Uganda Premier League title race.

The Jogoos, coming from behind, scored two late goals within the last eight minutes of the game to win it, having conceded a goal to fall behind in the 79th minute.

At Wankulukuku, a minute of silence was observed in memory of the late Coach Fred Kisitu Kajoba who was pronounced dead on Monday, May 13.

There was a lot of pressing and asking for goals on either side, but none saw the back of the net, until the 79th minute when second half substitute Bruno Bunyaga broke the deadlock to put URA ahead, scoring from a header, assisted by Saidi Kyeyune.

Within the next three minutes, Villa leveled matters, through Umar Lutalo who scored in the 82nd minute, and with just two minutes left to play for on the clock, the Jogoos got the winning goal through captain Kenneth Ssemakula.

The win now takes SC Villa from third to the top of the table, having accumulated 54 points after 28 games, comprising 15 wins, nine draws and four losses.

Results from elsewhere seemed to have worked to the Jogoos’ wish. BUL (that was leading the table) drew 0-0 with Mbarara City, and Kitara that was second lost 1-0 to Bright Stars.

The Jogoos have displaced BUL (53) to third position, as Vipers (53) occupy second position with a superior (+6) goal difference better than the Eastern Giants.

Kitara (51) have dropped to fourth after their shock 1-0 defeat to stubborn mid table giants Bright Stars.

In the last game of the season for SC Villa, they will visit NEC at the MTN Omondi stadium on Saturday, May 18. If they win that game, they’ll be crowned champions that day, and extend their record to 17 league titles.
