Serena 63 Golf Series Back for Second Quarterly Event

The Serena 63 Golf Series is set to host its second quarterly event this Saturday, August 10, 2024, at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa in Kigo.

Now in its second year, the series has garnered increasing popularity, with participation rising from 70 players in the first quarter to 77 currently.

Presented by I&M Bank Uganda and Serena Hotels, this weekend’s event promises to be a highlight on the golfing calendar.

The top performers in the series will be recognized during a prize-giving dinner at the 19th hole, where awards will be presented to celebrate their achievements.

The event will also feature a subsidiary competition, open to all golfers, including those not participating in the main series.

Boniface Ssimwa, a professional at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa and one of the series officials, anticipates a larger turnout as the series moves into its final stretch.

“The Serena 63 Series is now one of the most sought-after events at the club,” Ssimwa stated.

“We have tens of players who have already completed over 20 rounds, significantly increasing their chances of emerging as winners in the series.”

Participants in this year’s series stand a chance to win a grand prize valued at USh 40 million, which includes an exclusive annual golf membership at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa.

With such high stakes, anticipation is building for the awards ceremony, where top performers will receive prizes from event sponsors I&M Bank and Serena Hotels.

Annette Nakiyaga, Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at I&M Bank Uganda, expressed her excitement for the event:

“As we prepare to celebrate our golfers’ achievements, we’re proud to support an event that not only honors sporting excellence but also builds community, strengthens bonds, and fosters lasting friendships.”

In addition to the prizes, I&M Bank will offer special perks for the top-performing golfers. The most notable of these is a fully sponsored trip for the series’ five overall winners to participate in the prestigious I&M Invitational Golf Tournament in Kenya early next year.

Defending champion David Plenderleith, who led the series after the first quarter, remains one of the top contenders with 20 rounds of play under his belt.

Other standout golfers in the series include first-quarter second runner-up Duncan Kaggwa (23 rounds), Kartick Halai (22 rounds), and Katy Kabenge (21 rounds).

The overall winners of the Serena 63 Golf Series will be announced at the grand finale, scheduled for November 30th, 2024.
