Residents of Ruyanja West Cell in Kibingo Ward of Hoima City are in a state of confusion following the discovery of a coffin containing a panga left at the doorstep of Alituha Godfrey’s home last night.

The unsettling incident unfolded early in the morning when Godfrey and his wife, Harriet Nyamaizi, opened their door to find a coffin wrapped in purple cloth blocking their entrance. “I had woken up very early to prepare the children for school. It was very surprising to find a coffin right at my door. When I saw it, I was shocked and began screaming ‘Jesus’ and collapsed until my husband came outside and found me lying down,” Nyamaizi recounted.

Neighbors, local leaders, and police were alerted to the eerie scene. Upon arrival, Alituha Godfrey was reportedly too stunned to speak to the media, but the couple’s ordeal has left the community rattled. Nyamaizi remarked, “We remain in a very hard to explain situation.”

Johnson Mwesigwa, the vice chairperson of the local council, shared that there had been prior reports of a similar coffin being transported by two unknown individuals on a motorcycle along the Hoima-Bugambe road between 9:00 PM and 10:00 PM the previous evening. He explained, “Different residents saw a man and a woman carrying the coffin, covered partially with a sack. The situation remains confusing as it ended up at one’s home.”

LC1 chairman Kiiza Erukana, also known as Katefali, emphasized the underlying tensions in the community that may have contributed to the bizarre incident. “There are a lot of complaints within our communities. As local council leaders, we have to analyze these issues to curb such bad behaviors,” he stated.

As part of the investigation, police from Kasingo police station in Hoima West Division have been deployed to trace the culprits, utilizing police dogs to follow possible footprints. However, their efforts have so far proved fruitless, and the coffin is currently in police possession.

At this time, clear communication regarding the police’s progress on the investigation remains elusive.
