Ssekamatte Inspires UPDF to Maiden Victory Over Wakiso Giants

New signing Samuel Ssekamatte scored a crucial penalty to secure UPDF FC’s first-ever home victory over Wakiso Giants at Bombo Barracks Military Ground in the Uganda Premier League.

Ssekamatte confidently converted from the spot in the 57th minute, sending goalkeeper Alitho James the wrong way.

The penalty was awarded after Musa Ssegujja handled Christopher Kawagu’s cross.

The win marked UPDF FC’s return to form following a 1-0 defeat to NEC FC.

It was also their second consecutive home win, having beaten Lugazi FC 1-0 on Match Day Two.

Wakiso Giants, who had been unbeaten this season, saw their three-match winning streak come to an end at Bombo Barracks.

The match itself was largely uneventful, with both teams struggling to control the game.

However, UPDF FC created the better chances. Samson Kigozi had two shots saved by Alitho, while Ronald Kayondo’s effort was also spectacularly stopped by the Wakiso Giants keeper.

Wakiso Giants threatened sporadically, with their best chance coming when Bernard Muwanga made a critical goal-line clearance to deny Herbert Asiimwe from Marvin Oshaba’s cross.

UPDF goalkeeper Richard Anyama also made a crucial intervention, saving a dangerous cross from Oshaba.

The victory lifts UPDF FC to 4th place, level on 7 points with 3rd-placed Wakiso Giants.
