In the lead-up to his highly anticipated fight against Egyptian national Ahmed Borishe, Ugandan pugilist John Sserunjogi has received a timely boost.
The super middleweight bout, set for August 23rd, is the main event as Uganda hosts the Africa Boxing Union Convention at Hotel Africana.
Sserunjogi has secured a sponsorship in kind from Kebab House Restaurant, a Turkish-owned establishment at Centenary Park in Kampala, which will provide his meals until the fight.
“This is very good for me, it’s exciting news as I embark on a big fight,” Sserunjogi said on Monday. “We boxers eat a lot, and I will train well because I have few other things to worry about.”
Sserunjogi vowed to make his fans and country proud: “This will be a tough fight, but given that I want to be the best, I have to beat the best. I am putting in a good shift, gone are the days when I used to train for the match, but now I am training on a daily basis.”
Samed Kalayci, proprietor of Kebab House, expressed his support for Sserunjogi: “We want to walk this journey with Sserunjogi and are ready to provide him with all the nutritional support he needs.”
Sserunjogi’s opponent, Borishe, boasts a record of eight wins and three losses, though his last bout, a knockout defeat against Georgian Nikolozi Gviniashvili, was held on December 25, 2015, in Belgium.
Sserunjogi, on the other hand, has won 13 fights and lost two, securing a victory in his last match against Juma Misumali in June at Club Obligato.
This is one of the seven fights lined up on the evening by Nara Promotions.
