Supreme Court of Uganda Set to Rule on Robert Kasibante’s Bid to Withdraw Presidential Election Petition

Kampala – The Supreme Court of Uganda is set to deliver its ruling tomorrow, Thursday, 26th February 2026, on an application filed by former presidential candidate Robert Kasibante seeking to withdraw his presidential election petition.

In a notice issued on February 23, 2026, under the hand and seal of the Registrar, the Court directed all respondents and their legal representatives to appear for the ruling scheduled for 10:00 a.m.

The notice cautioned that should any of the parties fail to attend—either in person, through their lawyers, or authorised agents—the decision may nonetheless be delivered in their absence.

Kasibante, who finished sixth in the January 2026 General Elections, had petitioned the Supreme Court challenging the declaration of Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as President for the 2026–2031 term.

In his petition, Kasibante alleged that the election was marred by several irregularities, including the alleged involvement of the army in the electoral process, failure of biometric voter verification machines, vote rigging, and other inconsistencies.

However, he later made a U-turn and applied to withdraw the petition. The Supreme Court’s ruling on Thursday will determine the fate of that application.
