A Violent Break-In
Family members report that they were alerted to a break-in at Pole Pole’s residence in Dar es Salaam on the morning of 6 October 2025. Upon arrival, they discovered the door broken, electrical wires cut, and significant traces of blood inside the home — signs pointing to a violent struggle.

Calls for Transparency and Justice
Amnesty International has urged the Tanzanian government to immediately disclose the former diplomat’s fate and to conduct an independent and transparent investigation into his disappearance.

Pole Pole previously served as Tanzania’s ambassador to Cuba, as well as a regional commissioner and CCM party ideologue, before breaking ranks with the government in recent years.

As of Tuesday evening, Tanzanian authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the disappearance, further fueling public concern.
Amnesty International and other civil society organizations continue to pressure the government to act swiftly, citing fears that Pole Pole could be at grave risk.
Human rights defenders across East Africa have echoed calls for transparency, describing the case as a test of Tanzania’s commitment to justice and rule of law.
