Uganda has confirmed two new Ebola cases in Kampala involving Congolese nationals, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the country to nine, including one death, the Ministry of Health announced on Friday.
According to a statement issued by the ministry, one of the newly confirmed patients developed symptoms consistent with Ebola and was immediately isolated by rapid response teams for treatment and monitoring.
The second patient was identified through ongoing contact tracing efforts and had previously been listed as a contact of an already confirmed Ebola case.
“All contacts of this new confirmed case have been identified and are under close follow-up,” the Ministry of Health said.
The latest cases have renewed concerns over cross-border transmission and the potential spread of the virus within Kampala, prompting health authorities to intensify surveillance, case investigation, and contact tracing activities.
Health officials, however, emphasized that response teams remain on high alert and are working around the clock to contain the outbreak and prevent further transmission.
The ministry urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspected Ebola symptoms, including sudden fever, severe fatigue, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhea, and unexplained bleeding.
To strengthen community surveillance, the Ministry of Health has rolled out multiple channels through which the public can report suspected Ebola cases.
Citizens can send an SMS with the word “ALERT” to 6767, call the toll-free hotline 0800 100066, scan the official Ministry of Health QR code, or submit reports through the online Health Alert Reporting System.
The ministry stressed that early reporting remains one of the most effective tools in stopping the spread of Ebola and protecting communities.
“Report early. Protect lives. Your alert helps health authorities act quickly and stop Ebola,” the ministry said in its public advisory campaign.
The government has continued to encourage the public to cooperate with health workers, avoid contact with suspected cases, and seek immediate medical attention whenever symptoms appear.
Uganda has successfully contained several Ebola outbreaks in the past through aggressive contact tracing, public awareness campaigns, and rapid response measures. Health authorities say those same strategies are now being deployed to ensure the current outbreak is brought under control as quickly as possible.
The Ministry of Health has assured the public that updates will continue to be provided as investigations and response efforts progress.
