The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) has moved swiftly to address concerns regarding cleanliness standards at Entebbe International Airport after Spy Uganda Executive Director, Mr Andrew Irumba Katusabe, highlighted the issue on his social media platforms last week.
Irumba, known for his bold commentary under the popular banner “I Speak What Others Fear,” raised concerns after observing cobwebs in sections of Uganda’s main international gateway, describing the situation as a negative image for both travelers and tourists arriving in the country.
In his remarks, Irumba emphasized that tourism promotion extends beyond advertising campaigns and involves every individual who interacts with visitors, from cleaners and security personnel to taxi operators and customer service staff.
“At Entebbe International Airport you’re welcomed by cobwebs into the Pearl of Africa. Tourism marketing of a country is a chain of every sector, from a cleaner to that driver putting on an airport taxi uniform, to that security officer at checkpoints,” Irumba noted.
He further urged all stakeholders to play their role in supporting Uganda’s tourism ambitions, stressing that seemingly small issues can significantly impact visitors’ first impressions of the country.
However, what has particularly impressed many observers is the speed and decisiveness with which UCAA Director General Fred K. Bamwesigye responded to the concerns.
Immediately after the matter was brought to his attention, Bamwesigye reportedly engaged relevant teams and assured Irumba that corrective action had already been undertaken. He further revealed that investigations had been launched to establish how the situation arose and to ensure that similar occurrences do not happen again.
The prompt intervention by Bamwesigye has been widely praised as a demonstration of proactive leadership and effective management at one of Uganda’s most strategic national assets.
As the country’s busiest international airport and the first point of contact for many visitors, Entebbe International Airport plays a critical role in shaping perceptions about Uganda. Industry stakeholders note that maintaining high standards of cleanliness, professionalism, and customer service is essential in supporting the government’s efforts to position Uganda as a leading tourism destination in Africa.
Bamwesigye’s swift response sends a strong message that constructive criticism is valued and that concerns affecting Uganda’s image will not be ignored. His readiness to act immediately reflects a results-oriented leadership approach focused on protecting the reputation of both the airport and the country.
Many have since commended the collaboration between vigilant citizens, the media, and responsive public institutions, noting that such engagements help strengthen service delivery and promote accountability.
With corrective measures already implemented and investigations ongoing, travelers can expect an improved experience at Entebbe International Airport as authorities continue working to uphold the standards expected of a modern international gateway to the Pearl of Africa.
