The Uganda Hippos have dramatically secured their maiden berth in the African Games final after a thrilling 4-2 comeback victory against Congo.

The semi-final clash saw Congo take an early lead, dominating the first half with goals from Servyl Akouala and Mignon Koto, putting Uganda on the back foot.

However, the tide dramatically shifted in the second half as Uganda mounted an extraordinary comeback.

Bruno Bunyaga emerged as the hero of the hour, netting a brace alongside goals from Abasi Kyeyune and Hakim Mutebi, propelling Uganda to a historic victory.

The match was not without its moments of concern for the Hippos, as goalkeeper Shamulan Kamya sustained an injury in the 17th minute while attempting to thwart a free-kick from Akoula, and he was taken away in an ambulance.

Despite the setback, Uganda rallied and displayed resilience, ultimately securing their place in the final.

Head coach Morley Byekwaso’s squad now awaits Ghana, with the final showdown set to take place on Friday.

Black Satellites of Ghana edged reigning U20 champions Senegal 1-0 in the semi-final in Accra with second half substitute Michael Ephson scoring the all important goal.

This milestone achievement marks Uganda’s first-ever appearance in the African Games final, eclipsing their previous best finish of fourth place, which they attained in 1999.

Uganda Hippos XI – Shamulan Kamya, Haruna Lukwago, Ibrahim Juma, Ronald Madoi, Rogers Torach, Ivan Irinimbabazi, Arafat Usama, Abasi Kyeyune, Allan Oyirwoth, Bruno Bunyaga, Patrick Jonah Kakande
