•Uganda Vs Ghana – 7pm (EAT)
(Marrakech, Morocco)
Uganda Cranes aim for redemption against Ghana following a humbling 4-0 loss to Comoros in their recent international friendly.
Paul Put’s side endured a challenging start, conceding two early goals within the opening 10 minutes, setting the stage for a lopsided defeat. Despite efforts in the second half, they conceded two more goals.
Faiz Selemani and Said Yakine each netted twice for Comoros, a team currently ranked 121st in FIFA’s rankings.
“We’re in the process of team building, and some players haven’t had much time together. With time, cohesion will improve, and I’m confident they’ll progress,” remarked Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put after the defeat.
This match marks the 15th encounter between the Cranes and the Black Stars, with Uganda clinching only three victories, suffering seven losses, and drawing five times.
Uganda’s last triumph against Ghana dates back to a 1-0 victory in a 2014 African Cup of Nations qualifier, with Savio Kabugo netting the lone goal at Namboole.
Tuesday’s clash follows closely on the heels of both Uganda and Ghana’s Under 20 teams meeting in the African Games final, where hosts Ghana emerged victorious with a late Jerry Afriyie goal securing a 1-0 win.
Ghana enters this fixture after a 2-1 loss to Nigeria, extending their winless streak to six matches.
Jordan Ayew salvaged a consolation goal for the Black Stars from the penalty spot in stoppage time, following earlier goals from Nigeria’s Cyriel Dessers and Ademola Lookman.
Ghana’s last triumph occurred on November 17, 2023, with a 1-0 win over Madagascar. Since then, they have suffered defeats, drawn matches, and struggled at the 2023 AFCON.
With Otto Addo returning to lead the Black Stars after his 2022 resignation, there’s optimism for improvement despite his second tenure beginning with a defeat. However, failure to secure a win against Uganda could escalate pressure.
Ghana will be without key players Mohammed Kudus and Thomas Partey for the March friendlies.
