UPDF soldiers sensitize public on the values of the NRA struggle

Jinja, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Over 300 UPDF men and officers from Magamaga cantonment yesterday made a route march along the Jinja-Iganga highway, enroute to Bugweri district for the year’s Tarehe sita celebrations.

The soldiers who covered themselves with fresh green leaves and dry banana leaves setoff from Magamaga barracks at about 9:00am and arrived at around midday.

Their three hours walk involved one on one talks with members of the general public, whom they sensitized on the values of the National Resistance Army-NRA struggle.

The acting Magamaga Cantonment commander, Lt. Col. James Sajjabi, says that the route march is a sum up of their activities in Busoga region, with a demonstrative cheerful walk in the areas where some of the Tarehe Sita projects were centered.

Sajjabi says that their bush-war like attires were geared towards sensitizing youthful populations on the sacrifices of the liberation war and the struggles endured by militants during their quest for peace and stability.

The secretary for education and social services in Mayuge district local government, Davidson Zijja, says that physical infrastructure facelifts, coupled with harmonious engagements with the members of the general public throughout their festivities have been key in assuring citizens on the essence of peace and security.

Zijja argues that due to the poor reading culture amongst the youthful populations, physical demonstrations  showcase the nature of the struggle and the risks endured in rallying future generations to consolidate the gains achieved through the liberation struggle.

Meanwhile, the acting cantonment political commissar, Maj. Erisa Mutabaruka says that sensitization drives will not only enable youths to have economic Independence, but also strengthen their political ideologies to frontier peace.
