In a highly anticipated match at Kampala Quality Grounds on Sunday, 26th October 2025, the Asubo Ladies frustrated defending champions Kampala Queens to secure a 2-2 draw, despite being under constant pressure throughout the game.
Heading into the match, all odds were stacked against Asubo, with many expecting Kampala Queens to win comfortably and extend their lead to 10 points. The Queens started strong, launching numerous attacks on Asubo’s defense. However, the home side remained resolute, showing their readiness for the challenge.
After weathering several attacks, Asubo’s defense was finally breached in the 42nd minute. Top scorer Kamiyat Nayaiga found space in the box and, receiving a cross from Namusoke on the left wing, fired a precise shot from 18 yards to give Kampala Queens the lead. The visitors went into halftime with a 1-0 advantage.
In the second half, the defending champions came out with renewed determination, piling on the pressure to double their lead. However, Asubo stayed calm, disciplined, and determined to prevent their opponents from killing the game off.
The hosts’ patience paid off in the 71st minute when an attack that seemed harmless turned into a goal. Bitta Faiza reacted quickly to a rebound after a poor save from Queens’ goalkeeper Kaidu Sharon, slotting the ball into the net to equalize for Asubo.
The goal sparked wild celebrations among the Asubo players and their fans, who believed a win was within reach. However, their celebrations were short-lived.
In the 83rd minute, an own goal from Asubo’s Zaina Namboozo gave Kampala Queens a 2-1 lead following a foul on Catherine Nagadya. The goal silenced the home crowd and seemed to secure the win for the visitors.
With the game nearing its end, Asubo earned a dramatic penalty when Babirye was fouled in the box. The referee had no choice but to award the spot kick, which Namboozo confidently converted — redeeming herself and restoring parity at 2-2.
The draw leaves Kampala Queens in third place with 8 points, while Asubo remain in the relegation zone.
Elsewhere, She Corporate moved to the top of the table after a commanding 2-0 win over Amus College in Njeru, thanks to goals from Jesica Namanda and Nakato Rebecca, while She Maroons and Lady Doves shared the spoils in a goalless draw at Luzira Grounds.
