From Sports Grounds to Health Care: Janan Primed for Elite Schools Tournament

Janan Secondary School Bombo has expressed full preparedness to host the 2026 USSSA Elite Schools Championship, with the head teacher, Mukwaya Joseph, assuring stakeholders that the institution is ready in all aspects to stage the prestigious tournament slated for February 26th to March 1st, 2026.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Voice of Bugerere, Mukwaya confidently stated that the school has invested heavily in infrastructure and systems to ensure a successful championship.

“We have all the facilities needed. We have two football grounds, two basketball courts, netball courts and a swimming pool,” Mukwaya revealed.

The USSSA Elite Schools Championship is uniquely held during the school term, a factor that often strains hosting institutions in balancing accommodation for their own students and visiting teams. However, Mukwaya dismissed any concerns, emphasizing that Janan has adequate capacity.

“We have enough accommodation for our children and the visitors. I believe it’s only we who can do this, and we have enough labor to work on this tournament,” he said.

He added that hosting the championship aligns with the school’s broader vision of growth and visibility.

“Yes, we accepted to host this tournament because it adds value to our school. Our name is now out there because of this tournament.”

At Janan, sports participation is not optional but mandatory — a philosophy the head teacher believes shapes holistic learners.

“We invest much in sports facilities because we want every child to at least have a sport he or she participates in. It’s mandatory for every child here to have a sports discipline, and we have enough space to do this,” Mukwaya explained.

Beyond sports infrastructure, the school says key operational departments are equally prepared.

Health and Medical Services

According to the School’s Sports Manager, Ddamulira Akram, Janan boasts a fully-fledged health facility serving both boys and girls, complete with a resident doctor and several nurses.

“We know health is very important, so we have extended our health facility. We now have a doctor and a number of nurses who attend to students,” Akram noted.

Security and Utilities

Security has also been prioritized. The campus is fitted with surveillance cameras across all corners, supported by vigilant security personnel. In addition, the school operates a standby generator and solar power system to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply.

Water and Welfare

To cater for the expected influx of athletes, the school has installed three purified drinking water points.

“We know students and athletes need a lot of water, so we have three points with purified drinking water,” Akram said.

On welfare, Janan promises a unique experience. The dining hall accommodates more than 3,000 students, and the school offers an extensive meal plan.

“At Janan, we are well off. Students should expect the best ever. We’re the only school with two breakfasts, lunch and dinner. Everything is set,” he added.

This year’s USSSA Elite Schools Championship will feature seven disciplines, with only the top eight performers from last year’s ball games qualifying to compete — setting the stage for a highly competitive tournament.

With infrastructure, welfare, health services, and security systems firmly in place, Janan Secondary School Bombo appears determined to deliver a championship worthy of its elite billing.
