Kampala Region 3rd Division League Kickoff Postponed Amid FUFA Directive

The long-awaited start of the Kampala Region 3rd Division League has been postponed until further notice, the Kampala Region Football Association (KRFA) has confirmed, following instructions from the FUFA Competitions Department.

Initially scheduled to begin on Sunday, October 19, the league’s kickoff has been halted, putting on hold weeks of buildup and anticipation from clubs and fans across the region. The KRFA stated that the decision came after consultations with FUFA to ensure all procedures comply with national competition standards.

“We wish to inform all stakeholders, clubs, and football lovers that the 3rd Division League will not start as earlier communicated. The postponement is in accordance with directives from FUFA’s Competition Department. A new kickoff date will be communicated in due course,” the official statement read in part.

The suspension comes at a crucial time when most teams had already wrapped up their preseason routines — unveiling new signings, finalizing licensing requirements, and stepping up training sessions in preparation for the opening fixtures.

While the delay has stirred mixed reactions among club administrators and supporters, KRFA officials have defended the move as necessary for maintaining order, fairness, and adherence to competition protocols.

“It’s a temporary inconvenience but a worthwhile one if it ensures the league starts on a solid, compliant footing,” said a source close to the KRFA Secretariat.

The Kampala Region 3rd Division League remains a vital cornerstone of Uganda’s football structure, serving as a developmental platform for young and emerging players aspiring to break into the FUFA Big League and, eventually, the Uganda Premier League.

Despite the setback, optimism still lingers among football enthusiasts who view the postponement as a minor pause in what promises to be one of the most competitive grassroots seasons in recent years.
