Just off the medal positions, Kampala International University finished fourth on 16½ points, while hosts Uganda Christian University placed fifth with 14½ points, buoyed by home support but unable to break into the top three.
Mountain of the Moon University secured sixth place, finishing with 12 points after a balanced campaign of three wins, two draws and two losses a respectable outing in a highly competitive field.
Further down the table, Kyambogo University, Gulu University, and Muni University occupied the mid tier positions, while Makerere University Business School, Lira University, and Soroti University rounded off the standings after a challenging tournament.
The chess competition at the AUUS Games once again highlighted the depth of intellectual sport within Ugandan universities, with sharp strategy, mental endurance, and composure under pressure separating champions from contenders.
