KEEP CALM! Uganda Assures Tourists of Peace and Business as Usual Ahead of Jan 15 Polls

With Uganda heading to the polls on January 15, the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) has reassured visitors and industry players that the country remains peaceful, secure, and fully open for tourism.

In a statement released in Kampala on January 9, 2025, UTB said the election cycle has not disrupted tourism activities and that all major attractions across the country are operating normally. National parks, wildlife reserves, cultural and heritage sites, cities, adventure destinations, and hospitality establishments continue to welcome visitors without interruption.

“Uganda continues to enjoy a calm and stable environment across all tourism areas,” the board said, adding that hotels, lodges, tour operators, transport services, and attractions are running as usual.

The government has also stepped up security measures nationwide to ensure the safety of both citizens and visitors, particularly on election day. UTB noted that it is working closely with government agencies and private sector stakeholders to guarantee seamless travel experiences before, during, and after the polls.

The assurance comes as travelers and tour operators monitor political developments in the region ahead of the elections. UTB emphasized that Uganda’s tourism sector remains resilient and ready to receive visitors.

Tourists planning trips to the country have been encouraged to proceed with their travel plans as scheduled and continue enjoying what Uganda proudly markets as “The Pearl of Africa.”

As the countdown to January 15 continues, authorities say the message is clear: Uganda is open, peaceful, and welcoming to all.
