Kho Kho Uganda has set its sights on expanding the sport beyond the country’s borders, with plans to showcase the fast growing game at the East African level in Morogoro, Tanzania.
Speaking during the semi finals of the Kho Kho National Championship in Gulu, Kho Kho Uganda CEO Denis Mpoza expressed the organisation’s determination to use regional platforms to demonstrate the sport and accelerate its growth across East Africa.
“We are eager to demonstrate the game at the East African level in Morogoro, Tanzania. We are targeting big numbers locally and across East Africa,” Mpoza said.
The national championship in Gulu has provided another platform for players to display their speed, agility, teamwork and tactical ability, highlighting the growing potential of Kho Kho in Uganda.
According to Mpoza, the organisation’s ambitions go beyond increasing participation. Kho Kho Uganda is also focused on creating opportunities for Uganda-based players to compete, gain exposure and become valuable sporting talents on the regional and international stage.
“We want to create opportunities for our Uganda based players and give them a platform where their talent can be recognised and utilised,” he added.
The push towards East Africa marks another important chapter in the development of Kho Kho in Uganda. With participation continuing to grow among schools and communities, regional expansion could open new pathways for athletes, coaches and officials.
As the National Championship reaches its decisive stages in Gulu, Kho Kho Uganda believes the talent on display is evidence that the country has the potential to become a major force in the sport.
The planned showcase in Morogoro could therefore serve as a gateway to wider East African participation, increased competition and greater opportunities for Uganda’s emerging Kho Kho players.
