The two retired Bishops of Kigezi Diocese have endorsed and Mr. Kakama Godwin Nelson Kagoma to be appointed a minister saying he is a great leader who can serve Kigezi and the country.
The Bishops George Katwesigye and Dr. William Rukirade were additional voices to those of other local leaders that last week backed Mr. Kakama who was praised to be a greater leader that deserves to be appointed minister.
The two Bishops in separate interviews were excited and recommended Mr. Kakama especially for supporting the construction of churches, schools and other church development activities selflessly and for not promoting religious sectarianism.
Speaking in Rukiga, Rukirande said, “Kakama ogwe no mwana wagye, omukozi kandi owemichwe mirungi” which when translated in English means he(Kakama) is a man of integrity and a great leader.
Bishop Katwesigye said “Mr. Kakama Godwin has exhibited integrity in the Ministry of Finance and he is a good Christian leader I recommend him for any great appointment in President Museveni government”.
Besides the Bishops and other leaders endorsement, the Makerere University Don Prof. Nazarius Mbona Tumwesigye of the Bio Statistics department who is born in Kabale also endorsed Mr. Kakama for having supported the educations sector especially schools in Kabale and for working against religious sectarian tendencies and biases.
He said Mr. Kakama who has headed the budgeting Process at the Ministry of Finance has exhibited high professionalism and integrity and leadership qualities that deserve further deployment in government preferably in the cabinet.
“ I endorse the two retired commissioners for ministerial appointment; Mr Godwin Kakama and Dr. Francis they are great sons of Kabale and Kigezi, should President Museveni be seeking for good leaders to include in his cabinet he can pick those two names”
Prof. Tumwesigye prayed that the two names; Kakama and Runumi be humbly considered by the President as he selects and names his next cabinet soon. Dr. Runumi is a former commissioner of the Ministry of health.
Mr. Kakama(in photo above) recently retired as a commissioner in the Ministry of Finance where he worked with great integrity and also he supports the NRM party and community social, economic development.
Leaders and residents from the Kigezi sub-region recently expressed interest in having their own sons represented in the new cabinet as President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni prepares to announce a fresh team of ministers for his latest term in office.
In Kigezi, several residents and political observers believe the region deserves stronger representation in cabinet and say the two leaders possess the experience and credentials needed to serve at the national level.
Who is Mr. Kakama?
Mr. Kakama recently retired from the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development where he served at the rank of commissioner after many years in public service.
He began his career as a finance officer and steadily rose through different positions, earning recognition as a competent administrator and financial manager.
Kagoma holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Finance from Makerere University and a Master of Social Sciences in Accounting and Development Finance from the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom.
Over the years, he also served as chairperson of governing councils at Uganda College of Commerce-Kabale, Rukore Community Polytechnic, and Nyaruhanga High School among other institutions.
During the recently concluded elections, Kagoma reportedly served as a special campaign mobilizer for President Museveni and NRM flag bearers in Kigezi, an effort many local leaders say contributed to the ruling party’s strong performance in the region.
His supporters describe him as disciplined, experienced, and reliable, especially in the management of government projects, national budgeting processes, and donor-funded programs.
Residents across Kigezi say appointing the two leaders to cabinet would strengthen the region’s representation in government.
Denis Kibuga, a resident of Kabale Town, said people in Kigezi are proud of the two historical leaders and hopeful they will not be left out during the forthcoming appointments.
Amply Tumwesigye, a Kabale-based journalist, noted that the sub-region is eagerly waiting for the new cabinet and believes the time has come for the two personalities to be entrusted with ministerial responsibilities.
Maria Kobusingye, another resident of Kabale, appealed to the President to consider appointing the pair because of what she described as their good record, discipline, and commitment to public service.
Senior editors and political observers in Kigezi also described the possible appointment of Kagoma as a positive move that would boost the region’s visibility and participation in national leadership.
This website failed to reached Mr. Kakama to comment on the ongoing speculation surrounding the anticipated cabinet reshuffle and his possible appointment.
