History was made in Gulu as Kyambogo College School and Rubongi Army Secondary School emerged as the inaugural champions of the Kho Kho National Championship during the USSSA Ball Games II, marking a significant milestone in the growth of the sport in Uganda.
The championship, which made its debut at the prestigious school games, attracted top schools from across the country and highlighted the rapid rise of Kho Kho within Uganda’s education and sports system.
Kyambogo College School dominated the girls’ competition with an unbeaten run to lift the historic title, while Rubongi Army Secondary School displayed determination and tactical brilliance to claim the boys’ championship.
The winners and outstanding performers were awarded by Kho Kho Uganda President, Nsubuga Mustapha, who officiated at the closing ceremony. He applauded the players, coaches, officials, and schools for embracing the sport and contributing to the success of the inaugural championship.
“This championship is a major milestone for Kho Kho in Uganda. The level of competition and talent displayed throughout the tournament shows that the future of the sport is bright,” Nsubuga said during the awards ceremony.
Individual Excellence Recognised
Kyambogo College School captain Ojil Grace was named the Girls’ Most Valuable Player (MVP) after an outstanding tournament. She inspired her team to win every match on their way to the title, averaging 12 attacking points per game and accumulating an impressive 37 Dream Run points, making her the tournament’s standout female player.
In the boys’ category, Ediau Charles of Laboli High School earned the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award after leading his school to a third place finish. The team captain impressed throughout the championship with his exceptional attacking ability, eliminating numerous opponents while showcasing outstanding speed, agility, and diving skills that earned his team crucial points.
The successful staging of the inaugural Kho Kho National Championship at the USSSA Ball Games II is expected to accelerate the development of the sport across Uganda’s schools. With growing participation and increasing competition, Kho Kho Uganda believes the championship has laid a strong foundation for identifying and nurturing future national team players while expanding the sport throughout the country.
