The deceased has been identified as Kato Junior, 32, a resident of Rwanziro Cell, Kashambya Ward, Bitooma Town Council in Bushenyi District.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2026, near the deceased’s residence at the same address, in a coffee plantation.

Reliable sources indicate that the late Kato left his home during the night after allegedly misleading his wife, claiming to have heard someone outside attempting to steal his matooke (green bananas).
Just a few hours later, his concerned wife launched a search for her husband after he failed to return, only to tragically discover his body hanging from an avocado tree in a nearby coffee plantation.
Family members reportedly revealed that the deceased, Kato Junior, had a history of mental health challenges and had been prevented from attempting self-harm on previous occasions.
According to the Greater Bushenyi Regional Police spokesperson, SP Tayebwa Apollo, officers responded to the scene, examined the area, documented critical evidence, and recorded statements from relevant witnesses.
Apollo added that the body was duly recovered and has since been handed over to the family to proceed with burial arrangements, as the police continue to investigate the matter under a suspected case of suicide by hanging.
Meanwhile, the police have strongly urged all members of the public to ensure that family members exhibiting signs of mental health challenges seek necessary medical care without delay.
“We strongly urge all members of the general public to always ensure that all their family members with suspected mental health issues timely seek necessary medical care to avoid such incidents,” SP Tayebwa urged.
The heartbreaking suspected suicide by hanging of the late Kato Junior underscores the critical importance of mental health awareness and timely medical intervention.
