Muteesa I Royal University delivered a disciplined and resilient performance to force a goalless draw against St Lawrence University in the first leg of their semi-final clash at Kirumba Campus in Masaka.

In a pulsating end-to-end encounter, Muteesa showed composure and maturity beyond their experience, standing firm against a more seasoned St Lawrence side. The hosts enjoyed larger spells of possession and appeared more threatening in attack, but struggled to break down a well-organized St Lawrence defense.

Goalkeeper Mohamad Katete was the standout performer for the visitors, making a series of crucial saves and commanding his area with authority. His assured display under pressure played a key role in preserving the clean sheet.

At the heart of defensive midfield, Ziraba Ronald led from the front, organizing the backline and making timely interventions to frustrate the hosts. His leadership embodied the grit and determination that defined Muteesa’s performance.

In midfield, Jjunju Eddy impressed with his composure, effectively controlling possession in tight spaces and distributing the ball with precision. His calm presence allowed Muteesa to absorb pressure while launching occasional counterattacks, particularly through the flanks. Not forgetting the Lutwama Ali performance, him alone forced Kateete to make three crucial saves, the midfield maestro exposed his ability in shooting from the long range.

Despite limited opportunities in front of goal, Muteesa remained tactically disciplined and patient throughout the match, showcasing strong team unity and awareness.

For Muteesa forward Busulwa Patrick was largely contained by the visitors’ defensive structure, unable to find the breakthrough in a tightly contested affair.

While the result maintained St Lawrence’s unbeaten home run, it was Muteesa I Royal University who left with a significant statement—proving they are not just participants, but serious contenders capable of matching established opposition.

With the tie finely balanced, all eyes now turn to the second leg, where Muteesa will look to build on this impressive display.
