The Kings are Back: Kitende’s Comeback Raises Stakes at 2026 USSSA Elite Games

The return of St. Mary’s Boarding Secondary School Kitende has set the tone for what is shaping up to be one of the most explosive editions of the USSSA Elite Games in recent history.

For the first time, nearly all of Uganda’s secondary school sports powerhouses will converge at Janan Secondary School in Bombo for a three-days spectacle scheduled from February 26th to 1st February, 2026.

After a three-year absence, the Entebbe Road giants are back. Kitende, who last featured prominently between 2019 and 2022, return with entries in football, basketball and netball — disciplines in which they have consistently asserted dominance at both national and regional level.

Their re-entry into the Elite Games instantly raises the stakes. Historically, whenever Kitende steps onto the school sports stage, expectations follow — and so do trophies. But Bombo will offer no easy passage.

Familiar Rivals, Renewed Battles

Long-time rivals Buddo Secondary School have also confirmed participation in basketball, netball and football, setting up potential multi-discipline clashes that could define the tournament.

Buddo’s pedigree and tradition in school competitions make them formidable opponents, particularly in basketball and netball, where they have built strong reputations over the years.

Emerging and established challengers alike will also test Kitende’s resolve.

Standard High School Zzana (STAHIZA) will field boys’ and girls’ football teams alongside boys’ volleyball, presenting a balanced and competitive unit.

Bukedea Comprehensive School continues its steady rise as a sports powerhouse, entering boys’ and girls’ volleyball as well as boys’ football — categories in which they have recently made significant strides nationally and regional level.

Amus College School adds further weight to the football and basketball contests, registering both boys’ and girls’ football teams in addition to basketball.

Meanwhile, Kawanda Secondary School strengthens the netball and handball categories with entries for both boys and girls, promising high-level competition particularly in netball, where several giants will collide.

Hosts Eye Home Advantage

Hosts Janan Secondary School will not merely provide the venue. They will field teams in boys’ football, netball, volleyball and basketball, hoping to harness home support in what is expected to be an unforgiving three days of elite competition.

A Convergence of Power

With traditional heavyweights colliding across football, basketball, netball and volleyball, the 2026 USSSA Elite Games are widely projected to be among the tightest editions yet.

Nearly every discipline features at least two or three established contenders, ensuring high-intensity fixtures from the group stages through to the finals.
