The 2025 AUUS Games roared into life this morning at Uganda Christian University (UCU), with University Rugby 7s serving up early drama, grit and intensity as teams began their quest for national bragging rights.
Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) set the tone in Round One, striking first and pushing eventual winners Kampala International University (KIU) to the limit in a pulsating contest. UMU’s early dominance saw them take the lead and dictate the tempo, forcing KIU into a tense battle that went down to the wire before the Kansanga-based side narrowly escaped with a 19–17 victory.
Defending champions Victoria University later reminded rivals why they hold the crown, launching their title defence in ruthless fashion with a commanding 24–0 shutout of Makerere University. The champions’ clinical execution and defensive solidity sent a clear warning across the field as they announced their intentions at UCU.
Hosts Uganda Christian University also enjoyed a positive start in front of their home crowd, grinding out a hard-fought 17–14 win over Kyambogo University in a bruising and tactical encounter that showcased discipline and composure under pressure.
With Uganda Martyrs drawing first blood, champions flexing their muscles and hosts standing firm, the Rugby 7s competition has ignited the AUUS Games with high tempo and uncompromising battles, setting the stage for an enthralling tournament as action continues at UCU.
