The Uganda Development Bank has rolled the dice on seasoned technology executive Peter Mukuru, appointing him Director Business Technology in a high-stakes move aimed at accelerating the bank’s digital transformation agenda.
In Uganda’s fast-evolving development finance landscape, where efficiency, transparency and digital resilience are no longer optional, UDB appears to be gambling on Mukuru’s two decades of executive experience to modernize its systems and future-proof its operations.
Mukuru joins from the African Development Bank, where he served as IT Project Manager and led large-scale, multi-national digital transformation initiatives at both enterprise and continental levels. At AfDB, he drove modernization of financial systems, digital workplaces and enterprise service management platforms, while championing emerging technologies designed to boost organizational efficiency, resilience and service delivery.
Before his continental assignment, Mukuru held senior leadership roles at the Uganda Bureau of Statistics, the Uganda Communications Commission, and the National Water and Sewerage Corporation. Across these institutions, he delivered enterprise-wide technology transformation programs spanning ERP modernization, cybersecurity strengthening, data and analytics frameworks, digital payment systems and business continuity planning.
He also sharpened his private-sector edge at TraceCorp Solutions, further cementing his reputation as a digital transformation strategist capable of bridging public and private sector demands.
Beyond executive management, Mukuru brings board-level governance experience, having served as a Non-Executive Director in FinTech, health services and professional governance institutions. His expertise includes digital technology governance, risk optimization, enterprise architecture and cybersecurity oversight — skills that could prove critical as UDB aligns technology investments with institutional strategy and long-term sustainability.
Academically, Mukuru holds an MBA, a Master of Information Technology and a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and Statistics. He is professionally certified in Information Security (CISM), Risk Management (CRISC), Project Management (PMP), Enterprise Architecture (TOGAF) and Service Management (ITILv4). His portfolio is further strengthened by additional training in AI strategy and governance, digital economy systems, digital payment innovation and technology-driven transformation.
Outside the corporate arena, he is actively involved in leadership and community service through Rotary International, where he has served in several District and Club leadership roles in Uganda.
By placing its technology engine in Mukuru’s hands, watchers say UDB is making a calculated gamble that deep digital reform will sharpen its competitive edge as Uganda’s Development Finance Institution. Whether this bet delivers the transformative payoff the bank seeks will be closely watched in the months ahead.
