Kawempe Muslim Secondary School and St. Mary’s Boarding Secondary School Kitende were the biggest winners as the 2026 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Ball Games II National Championship concluded in Gulu, with the two schools lifting the girls’ football U17 and netball titles respectively.
Kawempe Muslim Secondary School made history by becoming the inaugural champions of the girls’ U17 football competition after edging Bwizi Secondary School 1-0 in a tightly contested final. Shadia Nabirye scored the decisive goal to hand the Kampala giants their first U17 national crown.

The triumph marked a remarkable improvement for Kawempe Muslim, who finished runners-up in the U16 category during the 2025 championship in Tororo, where Rines Secondary School emerged champions.

The champions capped off a flawless campaign by sweeping all the individual accolades. Shadia Nabirye was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, Ayikoru Hudah walked away with the Best Goalkeeper award, while Nabawanuka Belinda finished as the top scorer with six goals.
Bwizi Secondary School from Kasese settled for silver, while Bugisu High School claimed the bronze medal.
In netball, St. Mary’s Boarding Secondary School Kitende reclaimed the national title after dethroning defending champions Buddo Secondary School with a hard-fought 22-18 victory in the final played at Gulu High School on Thursday.

The Entebbe Road-based side displayed composure and determination throughout the contest to end Buddo’s reign and once again stamp their authority on school netball.
St. Mary’s captain Teopista Aceng was deservedly named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player after inspiring her side throughout the championship.

Meanwhile, Buddo Secondary School found consolation in the boys’ U17 football competition after defeating Greenlight Islamic Secondary School to claim the inaugural title. Muntuyera High School Kitunga finished third.
Buddo’s Abo Abrose was named the boys’ tournament MVP, teammate Ssesaazi Acram won the Best Goalkeeper award, while Greenlight Islamic’s Kulata Livingstone finished as the top scorer.
