USSSA Elite Games: Fort Portal Shock Buddo as Ali Strike Sends Them Packing

Buddo Secondary School’s title hopes came to a painful end after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Fort Portal Secondary School in a dramatic quarterfinal clash.

Kiyingi Ali emerged the hero for Fort Portal, netting the decisive goal in the 27th minute of the first half to stun the tournament favourites.

Buddo pushed relentlessly in search of an equaliser before the break, creating several promising opportunities but failing to break the deadlock. Their struggles in front of goal proved costly as Fort Portal held firm to protect their slender advantage.

Coming into the match, Fort Portal had endured a rough start to the competition, suffering a heavy 5-1 defeat to St. Mary’s Boarding Secondary School Bombo in their opening fixture. However, they looked rejuvenated in the knockout stage, displaying renewed energy, discipline and tactical composure to see off Buddo.

The second half saw Buddo increase the intensity, but Fort Portal’s resilience and organised defence frustrated every attempt. At the final whistle, Buddo’s road in the tournament officially came to an abrupt halt, while Fort Portal marched into the semifinals in style.

In another thrilling quarterfinal encounter, Mentor Secondary School eliminated Kyadondo Secondary School 5-3 on penalties after a tense 1-1 draw in normal time.

Joseph Kakooza had given Kyadondo the lead in the first half, but Epila Emmanuel restored parity in the closing minutes of the second half to force a shootout. Mentor held their nerve from the spot to secure their place in the semifinals.

The stage is now set for an electrifying semifinal showdown as the competition edges closer to its climax.
