USSSA: Kibuli SS Edge Rivals Kakungulu to Win Makindye Zone Qualifiers

Kibuli Secondary School were crowned champions of the USSSA Makindye Zone Qualifiers after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Kakungulu Memorial School in a tense and entertaining final played on March 30, 2026, at Buziga Islamic Center.

The tournament, played under challenging muddy conditions, attracted a large crowd of enthusiastic fans who were treated to a day filled with intense school football action and dramatic moments.

Before playing the final match of round robin format, Kibuli SS narrowly defeat St. Mbuga SS 1-0 in a tightly contested match. The game was characterized by high intensity and tactical discipline, with Kibuli finding the breakthrough in the second half to secure their spot in the decisive clash.

On the other pitch, Kakungulu Memorial School delivered a dominant performance against Gold Star High School, cruising to a commanding 7-0 victory. Despite the difficult playing surface, Kakungulu showcased attacking brilliance to comfortably advance to the final.

The much-anticipated final between the two rivals lived up to expectations, with both sides displaying determination and resilience. The first half ended in a stalemate, as neither team managed to break the deadlock despite creating several chances.

The breakthrough came in the 60th minute when Balikwa Shafick struck from a well-taken set piece, sending Kibuli supporters into celebration and giving his side a crucial lead. The goal intensified the contest, with Kakungulu pushing forward in search of an equalizer.

However, Kibuli SS remained composed and defensively solid, holding off sustained pressure from their opponents. Their discipline and sharpness ensured they maintained their narrow advantage until the final whistle, sealing a memorable championship victory.

The result further ignites the growing rivalry between the two schools, who continue to prove evenly matched in the Makindye Zone football scene.
