Kibuli Secondary School and Kakungulu Memorial remain locked in a fierce battle for supremacy at the top of the Makindye Zone qualifiers standings, setting up a thrilling finale heading into the last round of fixtures on Monday.
After two game days of intense competition, Kibuli SS sit at the summit with nine points, level with Kakungulu Memorial, but ahead on goal difference. The two giants have been dominant throughout the campaign, brushing aside opponents with commanding performances to underline their title credentials.
Kibuli SS were in ruthless form, dismantling Gold Star High School 7-0 to maintain their perfect record. Kakungulu Memorial kept pace with an equally impressive 3-1 victory over Buziga Islamic, ensuring the title race remains wide open.
Elsewhere, Buziga Islamic bounced back to edge St. Mbuga Vocational 2-1, while St. Peter’s Nsambya delivered one of the standout results of the tournament with an emphatic 8-0 thrashing of Gold Star High School. However, St. Mbuga had earlier secured a narrow 2-1 win over St. Peter’s, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the competition.
The much-anticipated clash between Kibuli SS and Kakungulu Memorial, billed as a decider between the zone’s two powerhouses, failed to take place due to eligibility concerns surrounding some Kakungulu Memorial players. Tournament organizers are expected to convene and determine the outcome of the fixture before the final day.
With everything still to play for, Monday promises high drama as all remaining matches will be played simultaneously at 2pm. The spotlight will firmly be on Kibuli SS and Kakungulu Memorial, whose rivalry has defined the tournament and whose final positions could ultimately hinge on the committee’s verdict as much as the action on the pitch.
