Victims named as death toll in Kikuube police patrol car crash rises

The death toll in the accident in which a police patrol vehicle overturned killing occupants has risen to nine after the driver who was critically injured, passed on .

In the accident that happened on Thursday along Kabaale-Kiziranfumba road in Kikuube district saw a patrol truck transporting suspects overturn.

According to Albertine region police spokesperson, Julius Hakiza, the vehicle, registration number UP 9799 was moving from  Kikuube police station to Kyarushesha village in Kabwoya sub county to do conduct a search in a murder case.

Among the occupants were suspects and police officers.

According to police, the deceased include the driver, Raymond Nuwamanya Charles Matubua Avinzo, the officer in charge of crime intelligence for Kikuube, Gen Richard, the officer in charge of the homicide desk,Christine Cheruto and Samuel Ojambo, a police officer attached to the homicide desk.

Others are Mubarak Lwamahe, Martin Munyuza and Peace Tukamusaba, all suspects as well as a one year old baby to one of the suspects.

The injured have been named as  Francis Bwango, the second in charge of the homicide desk, Michael Omamu, the in charge of Counter terrorism, Abel Nyiringiye, a counter terrorism officer, Apollo Turinoha, Julius Kabagambe and Jonathan Kamugisha, both suspects.

Police say investigations are ongoing while the injured are undergoing treatment.
