If you have been watching Baba Tv for the last 6 months, you might have watched some unprofessional conduct of a presenter named Jane Namukasa early this year when she hosted events promoter Bajjo Events in an entertainment show dubbed Ebitaala.
In that particular show and others that she has done, she openly showed a biased attitude against National Unity Platform and Bobi Wine as a person as she could always throw jibes at him severally to the extent that it had become a norm to atleast talk about the Ghetto gladiator on a daily basis in her show.
Well in a rather a dramatic turn of events, Janie Namukasa has come out with guns brazing claiming Baba Tv fired her for refusing to abuse Bobi Wine. This now leaves out questions on how media houses have taken political sides in the quest to serve Ugandans from all walks of political spheres even those who are not into politics.
According to Janie Namukasa who was speaking to an online Channel, she says abusing Bobi Wine during her show was among the tasks she was given at Baba Tv and being the headline presenter of the show, she couldn’t do anything apart from following the script she had been given by her seniors.
“The station was making me to abuse Bobi Wine every day, they would bring fake stories and say take on this, take on that. As you know the presenter has little input in the show, i reached a level where i felt it was too much. There’s a story they brought about Homosexuality and i refused to spin it and i was suspended for a week, i served my suspension for two days and i was called back to work, then they brought another story about Bobi Wine and we were supposed to go to Jinja, that’s when i threw in the towel avoiding to continue fighting Bobi Wine because all were lies, scripted to discredit Bobi Wine”- reveals Janie Namukasa.
Namukasa further says Baba Tv used to tell her abuse Bobi Wine but they couldn’t even pay her salary when the month ends.
This now shades a cloud of unprofessionalism in many Ugandan Media houses ahead of tomorrow World Press Freedom where journalists revisit the challenges in the media space. This year’s theme is A Press for the Planet: Journalism in the Face of the Environmental Crisis
