Uganda’s Vice President, Maj (Rtd) Jessica Alupo, has met and held talks with Ethiopia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Uganda, H.E. Etsegenet Bezabih Yimenu.
The meeting, according to the Ethiopian embassy, focused on regional and bilateral cooperation.
“H.E. Etsegenet Yimenu paid a courtesy call to Hon. JessicaAlupo, Vice President of the Republic of Uganda, made a productive discussion to enhance the bilateral and people-people relationship between Ethiopia and Uganda,” communicated the Embassy after the meeting.
Ambassador Etsegenet arrived in Uganda in April last year, replacing former Ambassador H.E. Alemtsehay Meseret, who ended her tour of duty to Uganda in December 2022 after four years of service.
On arrival, H.E. Etsegenet said her focus will, among others, include using the people-to-people approach in order to further cooperation.
“I will not only focus on government-to-government, but also people-to-people. We will not only share about economy and politics, but also history and culture,” H.E Etsegenet said.
Indeed, H.E Etsegenet has, in a short time of her stay, created networks aimed at reinforcing the already flourishing relations between the two countries as well as supporting the Ethiopian community in Uganda. The networks include government officials, media practitioners, civil society, diplomatic corps, etcetera.
Last week, the Ambassador was part of the high-level official visit to Uganda of the Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives of Ethiopia, Tagesse Chaffo Dullo.
Uganda and Ethiopia enjoy being strategic partners cooperating in areas of water, defence, tourism, education, and security, to name a few.
