In June, police in Kajjansi apprehended five suspects accused of stealing a motor vehicle. The suspects are:
a. Matovu Kenny, 30 years old, a Transport Manager from Aliwala village, Aluu County, Congo.
b. Gumisiriza Ismail, 35 years old, self-employed, residing in Okawanda Namere, Wakiso District.
c. Musimenta Ruth, also known as Jovan, 22 years old, self-employed, living in Kireka Bliz, Wakiso District.
d. Matovu Frank, 31 years old, a driver from Katooke B Zone, Nansana, Wakiso District
e. Mwebeza Ivan, 40 years old, a driver residing in Katooke A Zone, Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District.
On May 20, 2024, around 9:00 PM in Seguku, Makindye-Ssabago Municipality, Wakiso District, they hired a vehicle to travel to Masindi for an event. Instead of attending the function, they took the vehicle and sold it in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Police were alerted and quickly took action.
The five suspects were arrested and detained at Nateete Police Station. They later appeared in court and were remanded but subsequently received bail.
We reported this incident on June 19, 2024. Currently, our teams in Wakiso have re-arrested Matovu Kenny on similar charges of vehicle theft using deceptive hiring tactics to evade detection. He has confessed to stealing over four vehicles for sale in Congo.
