In the KMP North Region, a fire outbreak occurred in Nansana West 1 Zone, Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District, on September 2, 2024, at approximately 4:00 PM. The fire ignited in the rental property of Ssebagala Wilfred and was extinguished by local residents and the Fire Prevention and Rescue Services team. Although significant property damage was reported, there were no casualties or injuries. The cause of the fire is suspected to be electrical sparks.
In the Bukedi South Region, Tororo District experienced a tragic fire incident on September 5, 2024, around 8:00 PM, at the UCI (Uganda Cement Industries) Trading Center in Osukuru Town Council. Kisakye Jane, a 35-year-old businesswoman who sold petrol, died in the fire along with her two children, Peter Ben, aged 3, and Precious Taliwako, aged 2.
The fire reportedly started while she was cooking on a charcoal stove, igniting a jerrycan of petrol stored in her room. The area LC 1 chairman notified the police, and fire and rescue services quickly responded to extinguish the flames.
In the Greater Bushenyi Region, a fire broke out in Ishaka-Bushenyi Municipality along Bumbire Road on September 3, 2024, at around 5:30 AM. The fire, originating from an unknown source, devastated the park yard of PIBID (Presidential Initiative on Banana Industrial Development), resulting in the complete destruction of materials, including irrigation supplies, PVC water pipes, plumbing materials, and iron sheets. PIBID workers responded with fire extinguishers and water to put out the fire.
Our appeal to citizens is to ensure they have in possession emergency firefighting equipment, such as fire extinguishers, readily available at their homes or businesses.
We have also noted that certain areas are difficult for our fire trucks to reach promptly.
finally, it is crucial to have the emergency Fire & Rescue Services hotline on hand for quick reporting and assistance.
