In a significant effort to tackle the rising mental health challenges among youth, the Zannya Africa Foundation (ZAF) has launched the Wellness Warriors project
This, started with the Somali refugee community in Nateete in collaboration with the Dei Embrace Organization, and the Futsal Association Uganda.
The initiative addresses alarming statistics that show 22.2% of Ugandan children and 24.2% of adults suffer from mental health disorders, emphasizing the urgent need for grassroots intervention.
The Wellness Warriors project aims to empower young people aged 15-25 by promoting physical health and mental well-being through various activities.
“Our objective is to educate and support youth in developing healthy habits and fostering positive relationships with their physical and mental health,” said Kuluthum Najjuma of ZAF.
“By bridging the gap in mental health awareness, we can create a stronger generation.”
The program includes components focused on physical health, mental health workshops, engaging activities, and access to resources and support.
Participants will learn about nutrition, exercise routines, emotional intelligence, and stress management, while also enjoying team-building games and creative expression.
