MUCHOMO LOVERS BEWARE! Police Rescue 48 Dogs, Seize ‘Goat Meat’ Carcasses Bound for Mityana–Mubende Roadside Roasters

By Our ReporterIf you are one of those travellers who never misses a stopover for roadside muchomo whenever you’re heading along the Mityana–Mubende–Fort Portal highway, you may want to pause before your next bite. That “goat’s meat” you’ve been licking your fingers over could have been barking just hours earlier. In a shocking discovery that has left meat lovers questioning what exactly they have been eating, police in Mubende intercepted four slaughtered dogs allegedly being transported for roasting and sale to unsuspecting customers at roadside meat markets. The grisly discovery was made in the dead of Friday night when a routine police patrol stopped a suspicious motorcycle carrying two men and a large polythene bag.According to police records, officers signaled the rider to stop, but instead he sped off, triggering a chase. The pursuit ended with the arrest of both the rider and his passenger. When police searched the bag, they were met with a disturbing sight.Inside were four freshly slaughtered dog carcasses.Cornered by investigators, the suspects allegedly confessed that the meat was destined for roadside roasting points in Mubende Municipality where it would reportedly be sold to unsuspecting customers as goat’s meat.Yes, goat’s meat.According to police, the suspects claimed they had been operating the scheme for quite some time, trapping stray dogs from villages before slaughtering them and supplying the meat to vendors. For thousands of motorists who regularly make stopovers for roasted meat along the busy highway, the revelations have sparked fresh fears over what may actually be ending up on their plates. As the investigation widened, an even bigger animal scandal was unfolding in neighbouring Mityana.Police rescued a staggering 48 dogs and arrested three suspects during a crackdown on alleged animal cruelty operations in Busimbi Division. The rescue followed growing public concern and investigations into suspicious dog shelters operating in the area.According to Wamala Regional Police spokesperson Lameck Kigozi, many of the rescued dogs showed horrifying signs of abuse. Some had broken limbs.Others had severed tails. Many were severely malnourished.“Some of the dogs had intentional injuries, while many others were in poor health conditions,” Kigozi revealed.Police also discovered that many of the animals lacked vaccination records, raising concerns about public health risks. The rescued dogs were handed over to Animal Lifeline Uganda for treatment, rehabilitation and eventual adoption. But the Mityana story gets even stranger.Recent investigations linked some local operators to alleged online fundraising schemes in which injured animals were used to solicit donations from sympathetic donors abroad.Reports suggested that stray dogs were allegedly collected, deliberately injured and photographed before distressing images were shared online to attract donations from Europe, North America and Australia.Investigators say hundreds of thousands of dollars may have been raised through such campaigns over the years.Meanwhile, the three Mityana suspects remain behind bars and are expected to face charges related to animal cruelty.Back in Mubende, police continue hunting for more suspects linked to the dog meat supply chain. For roadside muchomo lovers, however, the biggest question remains unanswered:The next time someone offers you “special goat meat” by the roadside, will you ask whether it says “mee” or “woof”?GOT A HOT STORY? EMAIL: redpeppertips@gmail.com WITH AS MUCH EVIDENCE AS POSSIBLE.SOURCE PROTECTION/CONFIDENTIALITY IS OUR NO.1 PRIORITY.About Post Author
