Uganda Advises Citizens to Leave Iran as Middle East Tensions Escalate

Kampala– The Government of Uganda has issued a security notice to all its citizens residing in the Islamic Republic of Iran, urging them to prioritize their safety amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Foreign Affairs Vincent Bagiire Waiswa.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government said it is closely monitoring the rapidly evolving security situation in the region with grave concern. Uganda called upon all parties involved to exercise maximum restraint, prioritize dialogue, and avoid further escalation that could endanger civilian lives.

Due to the deteriorating security environment, Ugandan nationals in Iran who are able to do so have been strongly advised to take necessary precautions and consider leaving the country through any available and safe means.

The government also announced the withdrawal of all non-essential staff from the Ugandan Embassy in Tehran to ensure their safety. As a result, consular services at the mission will be severely limited while alternative arrangements are being put in place.

Ugandans who remain in Iran have been urged to stay indoors, keep in close contact with community leaders, and closely monitor media updates for further guidance. The ministry cautioned that information regarding possible evacuations may remain limited until the situation stabilizes.

Additionally, citing the fluid security dynamics affecting international travel, the government has strongly advised all Ugandan citizens to suspend travel to the Middle East until further notice.

The statement was signed by Permanent Secretary Vincent Bagiire Waiswa.
