Mr. Anguzu Elected President Of the Eastern Africa Association of Prosecutors


Mr. Lino Anguzu, the Director of Public Prosecutions of Uganda, has been elected President of the Eastern Africa Association of Prosecutors during the Association’s 11th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Conference, held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The Association, which brings together heads of national prosecution authorities from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, DRC, South Sudan, Zambia, Mozambique, Malawi,Somalia, Sudan, and Seychelles, held its AGM and Conference from May 4 to 5, 2026, under the theme “Leveraging technology in combating wildlife and transnational organized crime.”
The AGM was marked by the election of a new Executive Committee, with the Director of Public Prosecutions of Uganda, Mr.Lino Anguzu, being elected as the President of the Association, taking over the leadership mantle from Mr. Renson M. Ingonga, the Director of Public Prosecutions of Kenya, who now takes over the role of Secretary General of the Association.
The other Executive Committee members include: Ms. Angelique Habyarimana, the Prosecutor General of Rwanda, and Mr. Firmin Mvonde Mambu, the Prosecutor General of DRC, as Vice Presidents; Mr. Sylvester Mwakitalu, Director of Public Prosecutions of Tanzania, as Treasurer; Mr. America Letela, Attorney General of Mozambique, as General Counsel; and Mr. Gilbert A. Phiri, Director of Public Prosecutions of Zambia, as an Executive Committee member.

At the same AGM, Zanzibar was admitted to the Association as a member.
In his remarks, the new EAAP President, Mr. Lino Anguzu, thanked the outgoing Committee for making significant strides in steering the Association forward, pledged to build on its achievements to advance the Association, and called for members’ increased commitment, support, and participation in Association activities.
