“Our main target is to win the trophy, and I know my girls are well prepared to achieve that,” declared Boni Consillii head coach Brenda Nassozi after her side’s commanding 3-0 victory over Masaka SS at the USSSA Ball Games I girls’ football championship in Mukono.
The Ankole region champions began their campaign on a strong note, overcoming a stubborn Masaka SS side in a match played at Seroma Christian High School main pitch. Despite dominating spells of the first half, Boni Consillii were held to a goalless draw at the break in what proved to be a tightly contested opening stanza.
The breakthrough came seven minutes into the second half when Komugisha Loyce unleashed a stunning long-range strike that left the Masaka goalkeeper rooted to the spot. Masaka SS attempted to respond but were repeatedly denied by a disciplined and well-organised Boni Consillii defence.
Loyce returned to the spotlight later in the half, doubling the lead with a brilliant turn and finish inside the box to put the game beyond reach. Natuhwera Catherine then sealed the victory with a late goal, capping off a dominant second-half performance.
Boni Consillii, who finished as bronze medalists in the previous edition after defeating Kawempe Muslim SS in the third-place playoff, have once again signaled their ambition to go all the way this year.
Drawn in Group I alongside Masaka SS, St Francis Busunju, and Rev. Jabuloni Isooke, the Ankole giants will be aiming to maintain their momentum as they push for knockout stage qualification.
Elsewhere, Kawempe Muslim SS staged a comeback to beat St Andrews Ruhindi 3-1, while Mukono Kings High School delivered the most emphatic result of the day with a 17-0 thrashing of Jubilee 2000 Secondary School.
