Ggaba – High Court in Kampala seating as a Mobile Court at Ggaba Community Center presided over by Lady Justice Alice Komuhangi Khaukha, has sentenced Okello Onyum to Death sentence after being convicted of Counts of murder.

During the court seating on Thursday, Court ruled that Prosecution evidence, presented to Court, proved beyond reasonable doubt that Okello murdered the three toddlers at Ggaba Early Childhood Kindergarten namely; Keisha Agenorwoth, Sseruyange Ignatius and Odeke Ryan.
Prosecution proved that Christopher Okello Onyum on 2nd April at Ggaba early Childhood Development Center at Ggaba Trading Zone, Ggaba Parish, Makindye Division, Kampala District with Malice a fore sought, caused the death of Eteku Gideon, Keith Agenorwoth Otim, Sseruyange Ignatius and Odeke Ryan.
In their submissions, the Prosecution side led by Chief State Attorney Jonathan Muwaganya, cited out Article 172 of the Penal Code Act which states that a person convicted of murder shall suffer death as the maximum sentence.
He also stated, that although Uganda doesn’t have a mandatory death sentence, in this case which is rare of the rest, Justice will be served well if the accused (now convict is sentenced to death.
“I have been asked to thank God for the time, patience and efforts exhibited throughout this process. We thank Court and the Judiciary for bringing Justice closer to the people.”
Court granted an opportunity to have a word before his sentence, however he declined to say anything and thus court proceeded to hand him a maximum sentence.
Okello was also reminded about his right to appeal both conviction and sentence within 14 days from now in the Court of Appeal Incase he is not satisfied with the court decision.
